Newshosting can be considered a “senior” provider; they have been around for over a decade. The Usenet access they offered was always good, but so where the prices – Nice but somewhat standard. Over the years however they drastically increased their retention and upgraded their server farms to keep up with the emerging high-speed Internet connections.

In 2012, they announced their own newsreader, boldly named “Newshosting Newsreader” (available free of charge for members) which performed quite well in our tests. Especially the search feature impressed us as it very much resembles the ones from big commercial providers such as UseNeXt and Binverse which cost considerably more.

Sounds very promising, but what about the sneaky details? Here is our review:

Click here for the $9.99/month Newshosting Special Offer

Click here for the $99.99/year Newshosting Special Offer ($8.33/month, save 17%)
Retention: Over 1479 days old articles are being kept on their servers (that over 3 years old) and it is still becoming more daily.

Anonymity and Encryption: Encryption via SSL is included for free, and downloading is completely anonymous secure since no logs of downloads are being kept according to them.

Pricing: Now, here is the deal:
When buying through the official site, you can get an unlimited account for only $12.95, which is already a surprisingly low price for this quality of service. However by clicking on our special link, you can get these prices:

– Unlimited account: $9.99 with our “secret” URL, or $99 per year (which is $8.25 a month)

– Block account (for casual users): 25GB for $10, 180GB for $25

This makes Newshosting the cheapest provider for this kind of top-quality service.

Now, in nature, these type of offers are limited so we can’t assure you how long it will be available. You can use the link on the top to lock in the special price for the entire period of your subscription.

Speed: According to dozens of reviews it is possible to get speeds of over
50 MBit, so downloading a complete DVD takes only a few minutes. Now, we tested it and were actually able to download with over 100 MBit. Of course, this is outstanding.

Other Nice Features: In case you don’t mind paying ~ $5.00 more you can get the double amount of connections (60 instead of 30) and a free membership for “Easynews“, a site providing Usenet access within your browser, making downloading even more convenient. But quite frankly, you don’t really need this if you’re comfortable with the “regular” way of downloading which, also, is almost ridiculously easy, considering they offer a beginner friendly newsreader. Also, except for some very rare case, 60 connections is exactly the same, in terms of speed, as 30 connections, so no need to upgrate here..

Recommendation:

Not only did Newshosting keep up with the competition, but now it has also become the Usenet provider with the lowest monthly prices for high-quality, unlimited service. Retention, speed, and pricing are all top notch so we can sincerely recommend this service.

Eternal- September currently only offers text-only Usenet access but they do offer it for free. They only offer access to about 800 text newsgroups however. They offer support but only via e-mail. Due to the fact that they offer free Usenet access, I can see why they wouldn’t offer any other form of support. There are 4 available simultaneous connections and three available servers which are located in Europe. The retention varies between the different hierarchies ranging from 730 days to 90 days. Some of the other information we were able to track down are as follows.

Retention: The retention offered by Eternal- September ranges from different hierarchies. The retention is two years for de., 130 days for alt, 160 days for the Big 8, and 90 days for all of the other hierarchies available. If you are looking for more retention, I would suggest some of the competition that we have featured on our home page. Some of them offer up to 1000 days or more of retention for their users.

Anonymity: They currently do not offer any form of SSL to their users.

Pricing: Currently, Eternal- September offers free text Usenet access to all registered customers; registration is also free. The down side of offering free Usenet is that they do not offer any Live support or any binary Usenet. If you are looking for binary newsgroups, you can check out some of the other Usenet providers that we have featured on our home page.

Speed: You should have no problem maxing out your internet connection with Eternal- September. They currently have speeds that reach up to 100MBits per second. They also have 4 available simultaneous connections and three servers available which are located in Europe.

Features:
Some of the things that Eternal- September offers that I found to be great features were the fact that they offer e-mail support, the fact that Usenet access is free and the speed that they offer. Even though they offer free Usenet, they do offer e-mail support. This is a great feature that I did not expect to see when I learned that they offer free Usenet. Offering free text newsgroups is also a great feature that I have yet to come across. The speed is also pretty good for a free price plan. You can easily max out your Internet connection and they have multiple servers and server connections available.

Recommendation:

I would recommend Eternal- September to those of you who are looking for a free way to get a fast connection to text newsgroups. If you are looking for this feature, you should ensure that they have you favorite newsgroups available first because they currently only offer 800 newsgroups. You should have no issue e-mailing them and asking if they have your newsgroups available. I would also recommend this Usenet provider to those of you who are looking for speed but you only need need a Usenet provider for text newsgroups and not binary newsgroups. If you are looking for more newsgroups, SSL or higher retention, I would check out some of the competition that we have featured on our home page.

The great thing about Cheap News is that they offer a free trial that includes unlimited speed, up to 12 simultaneous connections and 10 Gigabytes. That is something that we do not see every Usenet provider offer and it is a great way too get new customers to try out what they offer. They also do not require you to provide your credit card details for the free trial. They off monthly or block plans and you have to pay for speed. The bigger your price plan, the more speed they allow you to have. We broke the rest down for you.

Retention: Currently Cheap news offers a 600+ day binary (775 days at the date of this news) and text retention. Some of the competitors on the home page offer near 1000 days of retention.

Anonymity: They offer a 256-Bit SSL encryption that is available for free on all price plans. This is great for those of you who are worried about your internet service provider limiting your Usenet connection during peak hours.

Pricing: Cheap News currently offers block or monthly plans. Each plan comes with it’s own available speed and connections available. The more money you are willing to invest with Cheap News, the more speed you are allocated. All of the block plans available have an unlimited speed with 12 simultaneous connections available. You are simply paying for Gigabytes. These plans include 25GB, 100GB or 500GB and they start at only € 8,95. The monthly plans are as follows:

– Basic Plan: 5 Mbit of speed, 4 connections and unlimited Gigabytes

– Premium Account: 20 Mbit of speed, 8 connections and unlimited Gigabytes

– Premium Account: 12 Mbit of speed, unlimited (12) connections and unlimited Gigabytes

As you can see, they offer multiple choices for price plans and they even offer a free trial. Having options and being able to test out the provider before providing any credit card information are both great features to offer.

Speed: Speed comes with your price plan. The more you pay, the more speed you will receive. They currently have one server located in the United States and 12 simultaneous connections available. They also offer SSL which will ensure that your internet service provider will not limit your connection speed during peak hours. They have plans available with un-capped speeds and unlimited connections available starting at € 8,25 a month, which is a good price.

Features:

– 99% Completion rate

– 108, 000 newsgroups available

– 24/7 support via e-mail ticket

– Up to 12 connections and a free trial available

Recommendation:

I would recommend Cheap News to anyone. They offer a free trial that really lets you get a feel of how they operate. They also do not require any credit card information to try it out. As well, they offer a good amount of news groups which is a good feature to have. What is the point of having a Usenet provider that does not have your favorite newsgroups available? Although they do not offer live support, they claim to be online 24/7. If there is no risk, than why not give them a quick try?

Buzzard News is now closed for business but we wanted to break down exactly what they offered and maybe we could get to the bottom of why they closed down for good. When we pulled them up, we discovered that they offered all types of price plans. This is a feature that we do not see with every Usenet provider and it is a good one to have. As well, they had a 99% completion rate and up to 8 simultaneous connections available. They did only have one server located in the United States and only 82, 000 newsgroups available, but this is not the worst that we have seen. We broke it down further for you to see what they really offered when they were still in business and maybe get some reasoning behind their departure.

Retention: They offered a 120 day binary retention and a 360 day text retention. Some of the competitors we have listed on the home page offer a lot more than Buzzard News did when they were still in business.

Anonymity: As far as we could see, they did not offer SSL. This could be one of the reasons that they went out of business. With today’s importance of a secure server, due to hackers and such, not offering one can turn customers away.

Pricing: The great thing about Buzzard news was that they offered four different plan types: metered, monthly, block and auto reloading accounts. The one thing that I did not like about their price plans though was the fact that you had to pay for speed. The more money you put into your plan, the more speed you received. A good feature that they did offer when they were still in business was a two month free subscription for new users. Some of the plans we found were:

– unlimited – $14.95/month

– 1.5GB/day – $6.95/month

– 75 GB/mo. – $17.95/month

As you can see, they offered some very affordable plans and many to choose from. I dislike being limited and I enjoy many options. Buzzard had many options available and this is a great feature to provide.

Speed: Speed came with what kind of plan you bought. The more the plan cost, the more connections you received. They only had one server farm which was located in the United States and it did not offer SSL. If your service provider limits Usenet users during peak hours, not providing SSL can actually slow down your connection speed. They had 30 different connections but only 8 simultaneous connection available.

Features: Some of the other features that we came across for Buzzard News was their 99% completion rate, 48, 000 available newsgroups, and e-mail support.

Recommendation:

I can not recommend Buzzard news to anyone because it is not open any longer. If they were still open, I would probably not recommend them to anyone as they do not offer live support, a sufficient amount of newsgroups or a very high retention. I guess that is why Buzzard News went out of business to begin with.

Budget News is another Usenet provider out there that we decided to break down and see exactly what they offer to their customers. We discovered that they do not offer SSL, they only have one server but they do offer 100, 000+ newsgroups and up to 10 available simutanious connections. It is quite important to have a Usenet provider that offers your favorite news groups and having 100, 000+ news groups available is a great feature. Their retention seemed a little lower than the competition but they do offer uncensored and un-logged connections. We broke it down for you so you can really see exactly what they offer.

Retention: Budget News currently offers a 40 day text and a 40 day binary retention. This is considerable lower than some of the other Usenet providers that we have featured on our home page.

Anonymity: They do not offer any form of SSL but they do offer an un-logged server that is free from monitoring. If you do not need SSL, you are good to go with Budget News. If you do require a secure server, try checking out some of the other providers that we have featured on our home page.

Pricing: Budget News only offers unlimited plans. This is great for someone who is looking for an unlimited account. Unlimited accounts are great because they do not have capped speeds, limited connections or limited available Gigabytes. They only offer two plan types and they are:

– 1 month for €5

– 1 year for €25

As you can see, their unlimited plans are very inexpensive and affordable for anyone. If you are like me, you do not like to be limited. With this Usenet provider, you wont be. They offer unlimited plans at an affordable price and the plans offer an unlimited amount of Gigabytes and connections.

Speed: They offer an un-capped server speed for all plan types. They offer 10 available simultaneous connections but they only offer one server. They do not offer SSL either so this could slow down your connection if you internet service provider limits Usenet users during peak hours.

Features: Some of the other features that they offer is a 99% completion rate, 100, 000+ available news groups, and e-mail support. Having live support is a plus but of course, any support is a good thing to have.

Recommendation:

Although having a Usenet provider that offers live support and not just e-mail support is a plus, this Usenet provider offers 100, 000+ available news groups which is good. You want to have a Usenet provider that carries your favorite news groups and one that will carry your new favorite news groups. Having many news groups is important. They offer some cheap unlimited plans as well. I would recommend this Usenet provider to those of you who are looking for inexpensive unlimited plans and you do not need a secure server or live support.

Bubba News is another Usenet provider that we wanted to break down and see what they really offered to their customers. When I retrieved their website however, I was shocked to see that they do not offer any Usenet related information! I was wondering how they expected anyone to sign-up if they do not know what they offer! I guess that is where we come in.

Retention: Bubba News offers a 300 day text retention and a 30 day binary retention. Some of the competitors that we have listed on our home page offer a higher retention than this.

Anonymity: They do not currently offer any form of SSL on their server, which is located in the United States.

Pricing: They do not offer any block plans. You can not buy a plan for multiple months and save which may have some customers turning to the competitors. They offer metered plans that expire each month unless you pay to continue your subscription. Speed is also factored into their plans so the more money you are willing to slap down, the more speed you will receive. Some of the plans that we ran across were:

– 5GB for $6.95 a month

– 25GB for $19.90

They have about ten plans available which is a good thing for most. If you are like me, you like options and Bubba News does offer multiple price plans to choose from. They are all metered plans however so if you are not looking for metered plans, check out some of the competitors we have listed on our home page.

Speed: Speed comes with how much money you are willing to put down when it comes to this Usenet provider. The bigger the price plan you purchase, the more speed you will get. They do not offer an un-capped speed either because of this. They offer up to 4 simultaneous connections and no form of SSL. This is a little slower than some of the competitors we have featured on our home page. They only have one server farm located in the United States as well.

Features: Some of the other features that we came across, after some searching, included:

– 98% completion

– 35, 000 news groups

One of the features that I like to see a Usenet provider provide is live support. Bubba news only has e-mail support available for their customers. Another feature that I like to see a Usenet provider offer is 100, 000+ news groups. Before signing on with Bubba News, you will want to ensure that they have your favorite news groups first.

Recommendation:

I probably would not recommend Bubba News to anyone only because they are not willing to hand out information as far as I can tell. As well, they have no form of live support and a lower retention rate. They also have a low number of available news groups. I would check out some of the other providers we have on the home page first.

They offer block price plans that are quite inexpensive too! We broke it all down for you to really see what they offer over the competitors and what they forgot to include.

Retention: Block News offers a 1, 050 day binary retention and a 730 day text retention. This is definitely up there with the competitors but it is still not the best retention that we have seen.

Anonymity: They currently offer free SSL with every price plan available. This is a feature that we do not see every Usenet provider offer and it is a great way to get new customers and hold the old ones.

Pricing: The great thing about Block News is that they offer an unlimited expiration date so you only have to pay once. They only offer block plans however. They offer multiple different block plans to choose from though. Some of the plans that we ran into were:

– 5 GB block – $2.75

– 50 GB block – $11.79

– 1,024 GB block – $91.39

As you can see, they offer some really great block plans for quite cheap. If you are a light Usenet user some of these plan will last you forever! Not only that, you can get 5GB for only $2.75 and it doesn’t ever expire; this is a pretty decent price tag.

Speed: Block News currently offers up to 50 connections on 4 different servers that are located within Europe and the United States. Although only 2 of the servers offer SSL, having multiple servers is a good feature to have that some of the competitors do not include.

Features: Some of the features that we noticed were their 99% completion rate and the fact that they have 85, 000 available news groups. Some of the competitors that we have listed on our home page have 100, 000+ news groups so before signing on with Block news, you will want to make sure that they have your favorite news groups available, especially if you like using rather unknown newsgroups. If one isn’t available you can simply ask them to include it.

Recommendation:

I would recommend Block News to those of you who are looking for some great block plans. Not every competitor offers block plans and the prices seem to be alright. As well, they offer SSL and a 99% completion rate. The only thing that bothered me was that they only had 85, 000 news groups available. The fact that they have a pretty good retention rate and up top 50 connections seems to make me feel better about that though. I would recommend them to anyone who is looking for a great block provider. Just make sure you double check that they have your favorite news groups available. As well, they only have e-mail support to make sure that you have every question answered before you slap down your credit card number. You can also check out some of the other Usenet providers we have featured on our home page.

Binverse is regarded as one of the best rated Usenet services around. The reason for its popularity lies in the fact that it has started one of the biggest advertising campaigns for Usenet service ever seen and also known to provide a special software that is meant to make Usenet easy for beginners.

They offer their users unlimited access along with their own newsreader. The Binverse client allows you to search for content & download them from Usenet from Windows or Mac. It also repairs & decompresses the downloaded files. If you are interested in easy to use Usenet and don’t mind paying a lot more than usual, then Binverse is certainly a good option for you.

Retention: Binverse current offers a binary retention of over 1,014 days & it is set to go up in the future. The binary retention offered by Binverse is as good as many of the best Usenet provider, if not better. The retention comes with a very high level of completion rate.

Completion rate: The completion rate of Binverse is extremely high at 99.99%, which is better than the completion rates of many of top Usenet providers out there.

Newsgroups: With this high completion rate, Binverse supports more than 100,000 newsgroups.

Newsreader: The Binverse client software is regarded as one of the best client software in the market. The client software comes with a built-in search engine which will allow you to search using various engines including Bintube, Binsearch, Newzleech, NZBMatrix & many others. This software can be downloaded for free while you are signing up for Binverse.

But after taking a closer look, we have to say that this newsreader is merely a bad copy of the many programs available out there for free. It basically uses the same free search engines as other programs, except for the “Atimto Usenet Index” which is used in some commercial usenet clients and isn’t available for free. Only the preview function for audio and video (which doesn’t work in a lot of cases) is something special, although you can get that with a client called BinTube which you can buy for a few dollars without having to pay an enormous sum every month to Binverse.

Pricing: The metered accounts provided by Binverse are one of the most expensive in the market. All accounts come with unlimited 1mbps downloads. Other pricing plan includes a Galaxy plan & a Multiverse plan. The Galaxy plan includes a 160 mbps speed & offers 30 GB usage. The plan also comes with 12 simultaneous connections. One will have to pay $13.99, $65.88 & $107.76 for a month, 6 moths & a year respectively. The Multiverse plan offers unlimited usage to the Binverse users at 160 mbps & with 12 simultaneous connections. For using this plan, one will have to shell out $29.98, $99.90 & $179.76 for a month, 6 months & a year respectively.

Free trial: Binverse does offer a free trial on their website. The free trial is offered for 3 days at a speed of 2 mbps. The free trial also includes access to Binverse Usenet client.

Security/Anonymity: Security is guaranteed since all connections are SSL encrypted. Bineverse also pledges not sell your information to any third party. They also claim not to track your downloads.

Customer support: Customer support of Binverse is quite good. They offer 24/7 support through phone, email & online chats. You can just visit their site or call them at 866-440-2997.

Payment options: Payments to Binverse can be made through credit cards & PayPal.

Conclusion: The services offered by Binverse are quite good, but incredibly expensive. Although a few function are relatively exclusive and rather easy to use for beginners, this doesn’t at all justify the immense prices for their services. They are definitely not one of the top most Usenet service providers as they’re merely reselling other services. If you want to avail of Binverse’s services then make sure you check out their free trial first & then decide whether you should take it or not – We would really advise you to signup for a much cheaper account at one of the providers we rated on our main site and use one of the many free newsreaders out there or, if you really need extremely easy use, signup for Easynews (you can find a link on our main page) which really is the better choice as it is really easy to use.

BinTube proudly claims that they are here to take the Usenet experience to a whole new level. The claim is quite brave given the fact that they will be competing against some of the very best in the industry. But, they have already been pretty successful in creating a niche out for themselves in the Usenet market & they will continue to do so given the quality of their services remain what it is today. The biggest plus point of BinTube’s service is that it can stream videos while you download. With this feature BinTube has been able to attract a whole lot of Usenet users to itself. Let’s now take a detailed look at the offerings of BinTube.

Retention: BinTube offers an incredible 1048 days of binary retention, which means a retention rate of almost 3 years. They also provide text retention of 1095 days. The retention rate provided by BinTube is at par with the best in the Usenet industry & even better than some of them.

Speed: As per customer feedbacks speed is never an issue with BinTube. They have server farms in both US & Europe & with up to 20 simultaneous connections you are sure to get a pretty high speed with BinTube. BinTube also offers alternate plans in case your ISP reduces your bandwidth. Network of BinTube is multi-tiered & fully redundant, which offers maximum bandwidth allocation at all times.

Completion rates: BinTube has a completion rate of more than 99% which is again, at par, with the best in the industry.

Newsgroups: BinTube covers more than 85,000 newsgroups. Although, the number of newsgroups covered is good, it can still be better.

Pricing: Pricing plan of BinTube can be a downer for the smaller Usenet users. BinTube only has a single pricing plan of $10.99/month. But it offers unlimited access to both the US & European servers & also includes the free custom client & Usenet search system. For big & medium Usenet users this plan is perfect. The users will also get SSL encryption & 20 simultaneous connections with this plan.

Free trial: Unfortunately, BinTube does not provide for any free trial of their services. But one can have a free trial of their Usenet client.

Security/anonymity: Security & anonymity is guaranteed with all BinTube connections. You can expect to be secure if you are using the BinTube client. But if you are using your own newsreader then BinTube offers free SSL encryptions via ports 443 & 563.

Customer support: Customer support is pretty quick since they have an online help desk. But customer support is also provided through email.

Payment options: You can pay BinTube through credit cards or through your PayPal accounts.

Other cool features: Unlike popular perceptions the combined Usenet Client & the Usenet Search works well in BinTube. But the coolest feature of BinTube is undoubtedly the ability to stream videos even when it is downloading.

Conclusion: Unlimited usage, 1000+ days of binary retention, 99% completion rate, 20 simultaneous connections & free SSL encryption at just $10.99, BinTube is highly recommended from our side.

Binary Boy Usenet offers three server farms which are located in the United States and in Europe. Although they do not offer a secure server on any of their server farms, their completion rate is 97 to 99 percent. Their retention is less than 160 days which is a lot lower than some of the competition that we have featured on our home page. They do have 10 simultaneous connections available but they only offer 84, 500 news groups. The most important thing about selecting a Usenet provider is that they offer your favorite news groups. So, be sure to check which news groups they actually offer before signing on. We really wanted to break down exactly what they offered, so we did!

Retention: Binary Boy Usenet offers a 64 day binary retention and a 160 day text retention. This is considerably lower than some of the competitors that we have listed on the home page but not everyone needs a high retention rate.

Anonymity: They do not currently offer any form of SSL. This is great for those of you who do not think that you need SSL and are looking for a cheaper price plan. This is not so great for those of you who do need SSL but do not want to pay for it.

Pricing: The great thing about Binary Boy Usenet is that they offer a 3-day free trial. With the 3-day free trial, you can download up to 30 Gigabytes! This is great if you are new to Usenet or if you want to ensure that you are investing in the right provider. They only offer metered plans which may not be beneficial for everyone. Some of the pricing plans that we came cross include:

– 75 GB for $17.95 a month

– 30 GB for $9.95 a month

Speed: Binary Boy Usenet has several server farms and up to 10 simultaneous connections. This really allows you to max out your internet connection. The server farms are located in the United States and in Europe. They also offer uncensored and uncapped speed for all price plans.

Features:

– Free 3-day free trial

– E-mail support

– Multiple server farms

The greatest feature that they offer is the 3-day free trial. This is a great way to show exactly what they offer to their new customers. They do not offer any form of live support however.

Recommendation:

I would rather not recommend this Usenet provider to anyone. I would shop around first however. Check out some of the reviews we have featured on our home page. This provider does not offer SSL and their retention is way lower than some of the competitors. Not only that, they only offer metered plans and they only have e-mail support. The thing that I do like about this Usenet provider is that they offer uncensored and uncapped connections. Although they do have a free trial, they should also have live support. Other than that, this Usenet provider is not the worst that we have seen.
