Bubba News Usenet Review

Bubba News is another Usenet provider that we wanted to break down and see what they really offered to their customers. When I retrieved their website however, I was shocked to see that they do not offer any Usenet related information! I was wondering how they expected anyone to sign-up if they do not know what they offer! I guess that is where we come in.

Retention: Bubba News offers a 300 day text retention and a 30 day binary retention. Some of the competitors that we have listed on our home page offer a higher retention than this.

Anonymity: They do not currently offer any form of SSL on their server, which is located in the United States.

Pricing: They do not offer any block plans. You can not buy a plan for multiple months and save which may have some customers turning to the competitors. They offer metered plans that expire each month unless you pay to continue your subscription. Speed is also factored into their plans so the more money you are willing to slap down, the more speed you will receive. Some of the plans that we ran across were:

– 5GB for $6.95 a month

– 25GB for $19.90

They have about ten plans available which is a good thing for most. If you are like me, you like options and Bubba News does offer multiple price plans to choose from. They are all metered plans however so if you are not looking for metered plans, check out some of the competitors we have listed on our home page.

Speed: Speed comes with how much money you are willing to put down when it comes to this Usenet provider. The bigger the price plan you purchase, the more speed you will get. They do not offer an un-capped speed either because of this. They offer up to 4 simultaneous connections and no form of SSL. This is a little slower than some of the competitors we have featured on our home page. They only have one server farm located in the United States as well.

Features: Some of the other features that we came across, after some searching, included:

– 98% completion

– 35, 000 news groups

One of the features that I like to see a Usenet provider provide is live support. Bubba news only has e-mail support available for their customers. Another feature that I like to see a Usenet provider offer is 100, 000+ news groups. Before signing on with Bubba News, you will want to ensure that they have your favorite news groups first.

Recommendation:

I probably would not recommend Bubba News to anyone only because they are not willing to hand out information as far as I can tell. As well, they have no form of live support and a lower retention rate. They also have a low number of available news groups. I would check out some of the other providers we have on the home page first.
